Austin Pair Prepares to Debut Italian-American Restaurant and Rooftop Bar

Two innovative Austin entrepreneurs, Joseph Zoccoli and Richard Thomas, are preparing to take a vibrant culinary journey towards Italian-American cuisine. Their new venture, Casa Bianca, is set to soft-open at the former Eastside Tavern location (1510 E. Cesar Chavez St.) on April 12.

An Alliance of Culinary Masters

Zoccoli, recognized for his nine years of association with Hai Hospitality and his role as chef de cuisine at Uchi, teams up with Thomas, who carries a wealth of experience from New York restaurants and his establishment, Cantaloupe Island Cocktails, in Austin. Casa Bianca marks the first independent restaurant for the talented duo.

A Blend of Italian-American Flavors

Casa Bianca promises to flip the authenticity script by highlighting its Italian-American heritage. The restaurant plans to serve everything from rooftop snacks and classic Italian cocktails to elaborate 10-course meals. Diners can anticipate a variety of culinary delights including a raw bar, homemade pasta, and vegetable-loving small dishes, along with an extensive assortment of amari and natural wines from “emerging producers.”

A Tribute to Italian and American Influences

Not just serving Italian-American dishes, the interior decor of Casa Bianca will also carry a blend of influences from Italian, American, Japanese, and Texan cultures. Specifically, elements of modern Texan take on art deco design and Zoccoli’s passion for sushi will find its way into the design layout and menu offerings.

Embracing The Community

“Our goal with Casa Bianca is for our guests to feel cared for and excited to dine out. The food and drink are fresh takes, but the service and vibe are old-school and laid-back,” says Thomas, highlighting the duo’s intent to build a community around their restaurant.

Preparing for Launch

Casa Bianca is set to open its doors starting April 12, operating from Wednesday through Sunday from 4 pm till close. The official grand opening of the restaurant is yet to be announced, awaiting final refinement of details and anticipation of local interest.

Looking Forward

Despite having numerous Italian restaurants operating in Austin, Casa Bianca is poised to stand out with its unique Italian-American concept. The city’s culinary scene awaits with bated breath the fresh eatery scene that the alliance of experienced chef Joseph Zoccoli and skilled beverage director Richard Thomas promises to bring in their new venture, Casa Bianca.
