A quiet week for food news in Austin is no less exciting, as the city welcomes a new cheese tasting room and oyster classes, enriching a vibrant and ever-evolving food community.

Love&Cookies Opens in South Lamar

First on the list of openings is Love&Cookies, a family-run business famed for its online and H-E-B sales from its original Lakeway location. Now, it has opened its first brick-and-mortar location at 1701 South Lamar Blvd.

Ashley Cameron, the owner, started the bakery to cook for her son who has Kawasaki Disease. The business now supports children with the same condition. Love&Cookies features 10 classic and revolving flavors plus gluten-free options, brownies, cinnamon rolls, cookie cakes, and even an ice cream bar by Howdy Homemade.

Antonelli’s Cheese Shop Invites You to Eat and Learn

Another much-anticipated opening on South Lamar is Antonelli’s Cheese Shop at 1100 S. Lamar Blvd., #1130. Known for its top-quality cheese and sold-out tasting classes, this new space will primarily host these popular tasting events, inviting all turophiles to delve deeper into their cheese knowledge.

In congruence with educating the masses about cheese, Antonelli’s shoppers can pick up trays from Tuesday through Saturday between 11 am and 5 pm. To learn more about the availability of classes, interested cheese lovers can check Antonelli’s calendar.

Oyster Classes By Garbo’s Sister Pop-Up “Shuck It”

For seafood enthusiasts, oysters from Garbo’s sister pop-up, “Shuck It”, may be of interest. Teaming up with Island Creek Oysters, Shuck It will be providing an educational dinner experience about oyster cultivation, flavor profiles, and shucking techniques from April 20-21.

Stacy Hopp and Marisol Bradford of Island Creek will share their extensive knowledge on oysters, while Samantha Garbo, co-owner of Garbo’s, will cover the intricacies of caviar. Following the learning segment, attendees will sit down to a delicious dinner.

Celebrating Achievements in Austin’s Food Scene

Among the hustle and bustle of openings and events, a major highlight for Austin’s food community this week is the celebration of achievements by some of the city’s top chefs and restaurants. Selected by a panel of industry experts, the Tastemaker Awards will announce this year’s Restaurant of the Year, Chef of the Year, and Best New Restaurant.

In conclusion, the diversity of Austin’s food scene continues to flourish with inclusion of unique eateries and learning spaces. Whether you’re a seasoned foodie or a novice explorer, Austin’s array of food choices promises to satisfy every palate.
