Southeast Austin Neighborhood Celebrates the Grand Opening of New 21-Acre Skyline Park

Austin, Texas – Enlivening the heartbeat of the city, the Easton Park neighborhood in Southeast Austin hosted a grand opening celebration for their newest addition, a 21-acre park named Skyline Park on May 4. Nestled at 7800 Apogee Blvd, the park gates were formally swung open amidst cheers, local music, food and drinks, family-friendly activities, and special remarks from Austin dignitaries.

Skyline Park: A New Green Escape

Skyline Park, enriched by its breathtaking views of the Austin skyline, comes equipped with a splash pad, an open lawn, and two purpose-built playgrounds for children of various age groups. The design also flaunts a bridge connection that reflects the city’s iconic Pennybacker Bridge. Offering a great spot for either a morning jog or an evening wind-down, the park is expected to become an attractive addition to the Easton Park neighborhood and the fast-growing Southeast Austin area.

Grand Opening – A Memorable Enjoyment for All Ages

The grand opening kicked off from 1 to 4 pm with Brad Chelton, the Brookfield Residential Properties regional President of Texas, delivering the opening remarks, followed by District 2 City of Austin Council member Vanessa Fuentes.

The excitement buzzed in the air as guests were treated with melodious tunes by DJ Cassandra and headlining act CJ Sparks, accompanied by a pop-up market offering food, drinks, and activity stalls for everyone.

Chelton conveyed his excitement about the park, stating: “We are excited for Skyline Park to provide Austin’s Eastside community with a vital space for play, events, and programming.” With its construction finished, Easton Park fulfills its mission to be one of Austin’s most amenity-focused communities and continues its commitment to building family-friendly spaces.

A Fun-Filled and Sustainable Hub of Activities

The park, which broke ground in August 2022, was designed to keep inclusiveness and sustainability at the heart of its configuration. Two well-crafted playscapes cater to the needs of different age groups.

The senior play area is designed for kids aged 5-12 and integrates interconnected and cantilever floors, along with a three-story tower that leverages a spectacular city skyline view. For younger kids aged 2-5, the junior play area is filled with an interconnected tree canopy and forest cabin structures, boasting a charming woodland theme.

Inspired by Local Art and Music

One of Skyline Park’s standout features is its hilltop kinetic wind sculpture, Singing Mountain, conceptualized by local artist and architect Nicholas DeBruyne. When the wind strikes the 5,000 stainless steel rods, three complementary tones play together, creating a unique and harmonious chord. The artist collaborated with local wind chime company Music of the Spheres to bring this melodious installation to life.

The grand opening celebration ensured everyone had something to look forward to. Kids were delighted with free face painting and balloon twisters, while adults could choose to spruce themselves up at the bling bar. Epic Entertainment also added to the fun, presenting interactive, circus-themed performers. Be it hula hoopers, stilt walkers, or lawn games, every part of the grand opening was a testament to the community spirit that Austin embodies.

A splash of refreshment was just a water balloon toss away for those looking to beat the heat and enjoy the celebratory atmosphere. More information about Skyline Park can be found at eastonparkatx.com
