A Flavor of History: Paperboy Team Renovates Historic Victorian House for New Pizza Spot in East Austin

The iconic Paperboy hospitality team has breathed a new lease of life into a slice of historic East Austin, setting the stage for an exciting new gastronomic destination, Loudmouth. This new pizzeria, nestled in the heart of Austin’s vibrant culinary scene, is looking to serve Italian-American classics from a renovated Victorian house, adding a layer of rich history to their delicious offerings.

A Historic Touch to the Culinary Canvas

The pizzeria is housed in the Haynes-Delashwah house at 1209 Rosewood Ave, a historically significant structure which was once home to former city council member Harry L. Haynes and Austin’s first black pharmacist, Thomas Delashwah. This prime location, well-loved by locals over the years, only adds to the restaurant’s appeal.

Employing the design expertise of Kempt Studio – which has also worked on other establishments under Paperboy’s Daybreak Hospitality group – the team behind Loudmouth has strived to preserve and compliment the historic artifacts of the building while infusing it with a fresh and contemporary ambiance.

Intricate and Charming Interiors and Exteriors

The exterior of the house has remained mostly unchanged, adorned with picnic tables, a shaded patio, and a play space. The interior, on the other hand, showcases a splendid combination of stained glass, beaded paneling, natural materials, and more, providing a sense of timelessness.

The team involved in this makeover was keen on preserving the historic prowess of the edifice. “Peeling back some of the layers, we really wanted to honor the historic nature of the building and allow the bones of the old historic structure to sing,” said Furman + Keil Architects Principal Philip Keil.

A Human Connection: The Paperboy Family

The connection to Paperboy doesn’t end in infrastructure alone. In a personal twist, the naming of the pizzeria was inspired by the executive chef of Daybreak Hospitality, Patrick Jackson’s, “boisterous” grandfather. This only adds to its warm and familiar aura, making it an essential part of the local community.

Equipped with a talented culinary team, Loudmouth will be serving along the lines of classic Margherita and pepperoni pies, garlic knots, chicken wings, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and more. The menu also promises to reflect Loudmouth’s commitment to supporting local farmers. In addition to that, the drink offerings will comprise both classics and signature cocktails, while also featuring several local beers on tap.

Conclusion

No doubt, Loudmouth entails an amalgamation of classic Italian-American flavors, historic charm, and familial vibes. It remains to be seen whether the zest of the Paperboy team and their dedication to honoring Austin’s history will translate into another culinary success. Loudmouth will be open seven days a week for dinner and plans to add a weekend brunch service soon. Patrons can visit their website for updates and additional information.
