Man Threatens Two Victims and Resists Arrest in Austin Town Center
AUSTIN, Texas
– Late Sunday night, authorities arrested a man who had threatened with a knife, two individuals in the downtown area of Austin, as stated in an arrest affidavit.
Disturbing Incident Unraveled Late Sunday Night
Around 11:36 p.m. on Sunday, as the two victims were parking their vehicle in a lot near the intersection of E. 7th and Trinity Streets, they encountered the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Terry Bailey. According to the victims, Bailey was aggressively shouting and causing a scene which led one of them to believe that Bailey could potentially be under the influence of drugs.
It escalated when Bailey approached the victims, who were just getting out of their car, and taunted them into initiating a conflict. One of the victims replied stating they did not want any trouble. However, Bailey reacted by drawing a knife from his waistband, brandishing it violently, and issuing another challenge to the victims, “Y’all wanna f—– fight or what?”
Commotion Leads to Injuries and Chase
Reacting to the threat, one of the victims attempted to escape but fell and injured his knee in the process. Meanwhile, the second victim diverted Bailey’s attention, allowing the injured party to climb back into their vehicle. However, Bailey, not to be deterred, made his way to the vehicle and stabbed at it through the open rear window. Fortunately, there were no occupants in the backseat during this terrifying ordeal.
The victims managed to drive away, covering about four blocks while making an emergency call. Upon reaching East 11th and Trinity Streets, they linked up with responding officers and pointed out Bailey.
Arrest With Resistance
Officers located Terry Bailey along with the weapon he used. Attempts were made to place Bailey in custody, but he refused to comply and resisted getting into the back seat of the patrol vehicle. The strength of several officers was required to apprehensively move Bailey into the car for his transport to the detention center.
Upon his refusal to reveal his identity, the police officers found documents confirming Bailey’s identity among his possessions.
Charges and Current Situation
Terry Bailey faces charges on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a single count of Resisting Arrest, and another for Failing to Identify. Currently, he is held in the Travis County Jail, with the cumulative bond set at $45,000.
