Former Austin ISD Executive Accused of Major Theft From District

Austin, TX

A former public school executive in Austin, Texas is currently facing legal issues due to accusations of theft from the Austin Independent School District (AISD). Lynn Brennan, 45, who once served as AISD’s Executive Director of Compensation and Benefits, has been charged with embezzlement, stealing an amount estimated between $30,000 and $150,000 through a misuse of district-issued gift cards.

The Indictment & Suspected Theft

The indictment of Brennan occurred on Friday, pointing to a series of thefts that allegedly began in May 2022 and continued until March 2023. However, AISD records assert that Brennan voluntarily departed from the district in July 2022. It was also reported that Angelica Williams, a former employee under Brennan’s department, was listed as a co-defendant on the bond records.

Connecting the Dots

After leaving AISD, both Brennan and Williams found work in the same city department. The city officials declared Williams as recently indicted in connection with her previous employment at AISD. It was also revealed that Williams resigned on September 1, before her employment within the city department.

The City’s Response

A spokesperson from the city conveyed that they were unaware of any misconduct or concerns related to Brennan and Williams’s previous employment at AISD. The city is now exercising their due diligence by placing both women on administrative leave. The city further announced that it is conducting a review of the contracts and accounts both executives were responsible for during their tenure in the Human Resources department.

Looking Forward

As the investigation rolls on, accounting teams and law enforcement are piecing together the story to understand the extent of the alleged theft. Brennan and Williams’s legal representation were not readily available for comments on the accusations. However, the AISD community and its stakeholders wait for answers, placing their trust in the legal system to bring justice to light.
