The AI technology is programmed to detect when a resident has fallen, which triggers an alert to staff. Dennis explained that the cameras are particularly useful for residents suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s, who may struggle to communicate what happened during a fall. “If somebody experiences one, and they’re able to get up, they’re not going to notify the staff if they have dementia,” he said. This enhancement in safety helps eliminate concerns of unreported incidents.

Dennis also shared that a nurse works with SafelyYou to review the footage, offering expert insights to improve preventative measures in the community. “From their expertise, they can offer some great suggestions again to make sure that all of our preventive measures are in place for all of our residents,” he noted.

Addie Palmer, a resident who recently celebrated her 101st birthday, shared how much peace of mind the technology has given her family. “I can just rest better at night. They have a lot of residents here, so I think that’s going to be a really amazing step forward,” she said.

George Netscher, a former University of Texas student, developed SafelyYou with the vision of assisting those with Alzheimer’s, as the disease runs in his family. With current deployment in around 450 communities across 37 states, Netscher pointed out that this technology has the potential to reduce falls by 50% and hospitalizations by tenfold. “We’re able to actually understand someone’s unmet needs and bring down the number of falls,” he added.
