According to a recent study released this past Monday, the University of Texas at Austin has snagged the title of the second-best college in the Lone Star State. The study was conducted by WalletHub, and it looked at more than 800 higher education institutions across the nation using 30 important criteria. These criteria can be grouped into seven categories such as student-faculty ratio, graduation rates, and post-attendance median salary. According to Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, universities tend to score better because they offer extensive graduate programs and more on-campus opportunities. They also usually have higher earnings post-graduation.

Texas Institutions in the National Spotlight

Alright, let’s break down what this means for Texas colleges. First off, the top spot in Texas went to none other than Rice University! Located in Houston, Rice ranked as the sixth-best overall higher education institution in the country 😮. Notably, it also boasts the fifth-highest graduation rate and scored in the 99th percentile. That makes it stand out as one of just 12 institutions nationwide that achieved such high scores.

In a proud moment for Texan education, Rice was also recognized for having exceptional education outcomes, coming just behind Duke University in North Carolina. So, clearly, the competition is heating up!

How Did Other Texas Schools Fare?

If you’re wondering how some other Texas institutions stacked up, we’ve got some interesting details as well. McMurry University in Abilene tied with others to be noted as one of the safest places for higher education. Meanwhile, the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio has the bragging rights for the lowest student-loan debt among Texas schools. That’s something many students can appreciate!

What about debt levels? Well, Huston-Tillotson University and the University of Texas at Dallas came in with the third and fifth-lowest debts, respectively. That’s definitely some good news for students aiming to avoid hefty loans!

University of Texas at Dallas had the highest student-faculty ratio among the analyzed schools. Additionally, Texas Southern University in Houston faced the displeasure of having the second-lowest graduation rate.

In other concerning news, Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and Baylor University in Waco were tied for having the highest student loan debt. Additionally, the University of Houston-Downtown had a notably low share of international students.
