Texas High School Football Season Wrap-Up
Welcome football fans to the exciting recap of another thrilling high school football season right here in the Lone Star State! The action-packed UIL State title games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington wrapped up last week, where football teams showcased their incredible talent and passion for the game. With 12 state championships awarded, let’s dive into some of the standout performances from this memorable week.
1A Division II Championship
In the 1A Division II title game, the Jaybirds soared high with a spectacular 54-8 victory over Oakwood. Their quarterback, who shone like a star with his impressive stats, went 7-of-8 passing for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Not stopping there, he also rushed for two more touchdowns, proving he was truly an unstoppable force on the field.
1A Division I Championship
Meanwhile, the Longhorns made headlines by winning back-to-back titles after an impressive 70-24 victory over Whiteface. The standout performance came from Reed, who threw for 86 yards and two touchdowns, while his legs racked up 91 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. To top it all off, he showed his prowess on defense by intercepting a pass!
2A Division II Championship
In a nail-biter, the Hornets managed to edge out Shiner with a close 36-29 win, thanks to their quarterback’s impressive dual-threat capability. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 171 yards and rushed for 147 yards on 35 carries, scoring four touchdowns in the process. That’s what we call a game-changer!
2A Division I Championship
The intensity continued as Ganado squeezed past Stamford in an exhilarating triple-overtime game, claiming victory 30-28 in the 2A Division I final. Ullman dazzled with his 13-of-22 passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns, while also making his mark on defense with eight tackles. Talk about multi-talented!
3A Division II Championship
Moving forward, we saw the Gunter Tigers dominate Woodville with a commanding 28-0 win, marking their third consecutive title! The quarterback’s performance was nothing short of stellar, completing 9-of-15 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
3A Division I Championship
The Cardinals celebrated their first-ever championship with a landslide victory against Malakoff, winning 48-14 in the 3A Division I final. Rigdon threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns while also contributing significantly with a rushing touchdown. His performance capped off a remarkable high school career.
4A Division II Championship
The Bulldogs crowned their 10th state title under coach Scott Surratt after a thrilling 28-14 win against Waco La Vega. Edwards rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns, while Beck led a commendable defensive display with ten tackles.
4A Division I Championship
The excitement didn’t stop there, as Celina crushed Kilgore with an outstanding 55-21 score, thanks to their quarterback’s remarkable performance of 9-of-14 passing for 265 yards along with five touchdowns!
5A Division II Championship
Randle, in only their third season as a varsity program, claimed the championship title with a thrilling 38-35 victory over South Oak Cliff. A standout moment was when Williams-Callis rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, proving that new programs can shine just as brightly.
5A Division I Championship
The Rangers celebrated their first-ever title by winning a solid 32-20 game against Highland Park. Noteworthy was Spradling’s impressive passing and rushing plays, alongside Colunga who made a game-changing interception for a touchdown.
6A Division II Championship
The Vipers raised the trophy for the first time as they took down Southlake Carroll with a 24-17 victory. The quarterback had a fantastic game, completing 14-of-17 passes for 248 yards with two touchdowns!
6A Division I Championship
And the season finale! The Panthers capped off an incredible perfect 16-0 season by defeating Austin Westlake with a final score of 50-21. Their performance was nothing short of electrifying, led by a quarterback showcasing his throwing arm and feet.
