AUSTIN, Texas — Exciting news is coming for residents of the state capital! Avride, an autonomous vehicle startup based in Austin, has announced a multiyear strategic partnership with Uber Technologies, Inc. The aim of this partnership is to roll out both autonomous cars and delivery robots to the Uber and Uber Eats platforms. Starting in just a few weeks, Austin will see the launch of sidewalk delivery robots operating through Uber Eats, with plans to expand this service to other cities like Dallas and Jersey City, New Jersey later in the year.
The first phase of this launch will focus on sidewalk robots, which will be tasked with delivering food orders in Austin. This convenience aims to offer residents a new way to receive their favorite meals right at their doorstep without the hassle of traditional deliveries. The rollout is part of Avride’s broader vision to enhance delivery services and make life easier for consumers.
Looking ahead, Avride has ambitious plans. By 2025, they hope to significantly increase the fleet of robots operating within Uber Eats across multiple cities. According to Dmitry Polishchuk, CEO of Avride, “We are excited to partner with Uber as we scale our operations and work together to further improve the delivery experience for both consumers and merchants.” The goal is to have hundreds of delivery robots actively operating by the specified year.
In addition to the delivery robots, Avride has plans for a robotaxi service, which is expected to launch in Dallas later in 2025. The integration of these autonomous vehicles and robots means that when a consumer makes a request for a delivery or ride through the Uber or Uber Eats apps, they might have the option of using an Avride delivery robot or an autonomous vehicle.
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, expressed excitement regarding the potential of this partnership. He mentioned that “Autonomous mobility and delivery hold a ton of promise for consumers and communities. We’re excited to partner with Avride to bring their technology to more people in more places.” This sentiment is shared by many in the community who are eager to see how these technological advancements will improve everyday life in Austin and beyond.
As of now, Avride’s delivery robots are already making commercial deliveries in the U.S. and South Korea, while its autonomous cars are actively being tested on public roads. This means that while the partnership is new, the technology behind it has been tried and tested, paving the way for smooth operations in multiple locations.
The partnership between Avride and Uber marks a significant step forward in the realm of autonomous vehicles and delivery services. With plans for both delivery robots and robotaxi services, residents of Austin, Dallas, and Jersey City can expect an exciting new chapter in the way they receive goods and transportation. As technology continues to evolve, the promise of convenience is becoming a reality.
