AUSTIN, Texas — The city is buzzing with excitement as the annual Austin FOOD & WINE Festival gears up to showcase some of the best culinary talents in Texas and beyond. Scheduled for the weekend of November 1-3, 2024, the festival will feature a remarkable lineup of 63 chefs and industry leaders who will bring their unique flavors and dishes to the plate.
This year, Austin will welcome chefs from various regions, including San Antonio, North Carolina, and even Los Angeles. Among the local favorites are well-loved establishments like Peached Tortilla and Loro Asian Smokehouse and Bar. However, attendees can also expect to taste dishes from out-of-state eateries such as Good Hot Fish and Coco’s To Go Go.
As excitement builds, we’ve highlighted five must-see culinary talents making their mark at the festival.
Peached Tortilla is a celebrated Southern-Asian fusion restaurant that has become an Austin institution since it started as a food truck in 2010. Founded by Eric Silverstein, the eatery has expanded to three brick-and-mortar locations and even has a spot at the Austin airport. Menu items range from $8 to $23, featuring delectable offerings like Thai Chop Chop salads and taco trios filled with brisket, pork belly, and cauliflower. Drinks, including housemade cocktails, are priced between $5-$15.
Another standout is Ezov, a Middle Eastern eatery that quickly gained attention and made the Texas Monthly’s Best New Restaurants list for 2024. Chef and co-owner Berty Richter has created a vibrant atmosphere and menu, inspired by his culinary experiences from a trip to Tel Aviv. Dishes like the smashed cucumber and tableside chicken shawarma keep diners coming back for more, with prices ranging from $5 to $32 for food and $6-$18 for drinks.
Chef Kevin Gillespie leads the Scottish restaurant Nàdair, after choosing culinary arts over a path to MIT. Known for his talent, he has been a semi-finalist for the prestigious James Beard “Rising Star Chef of the Year” award on multiple occasions. Nàdair offers a fixed-price three-course menu at $89 and a six-course tasting experience for $175, ensuring diners enjoy a true culinary adventure.
Coco’s To Go-Go is run by Courtney Storer, who shifted from human resources to the culinary world. Her restaurant, now also the culinary producer of the FX cooking drama The Bear, specializes in Italian cuisine. The dishes are crafted to perfection, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and unique flavors.
The Jason Dady Restaurant Group operates various establishments including Tre Trattoria for Northern Italian, Two Bros. BBQ Market for BBQ lovers, and Mediterranean flavors at Jardin. The group has been pivotal in the San Antonio dining scene for over two decades, focusing on family-run operations with deep culinary roots.
The Austin FOOD & WINE Festival promises to be a memorable event for food enthusiasts everywhere. With a diverse range of talented chefs showcasing their cuisines, attendees can look forward to a weekend filled with delicious experiences and culinary creativity. Mark your calendars for November 1-3 and prepare for a feast for the senses!
