Austin – In a major drug bust, Austin police arrested three individuals on April 1, seizing nearly 100 grams of narcotics, primarily fentanyl. The operation has raised significant concerns over illegal drug activities in the area.
The arrests took place at an apartment complex located on E. Oltorf Street. The police were alerted to the situation after observing suspicious activity involving a red Nissan Versa hatchback. Officers conducted a felony car stop when the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, and it was seen moving between different parking spots. As the driver, Justin Botello, exited the vehicle, a glass pipe with burnt residue fell from it, prompting a probable cause search of all three occupants: Botello, Andreanna Bishop, and Austin Montoya.
During the search, officers discovered a digital scale with drug residue in the car and a black Adidas bag containing narcotics claimed by Bishop. Notably, one of the fentanyl bricks found had a stamp consistent with images sent to Botello via Facebook, allegedly showing a high-purity substance for sale.
The suspects involved in this operation include:
All three are facing serious legal repercussions as they are charged with engaging in drug trade activities. Bishop has also admitted to using fentanyl and heroin herself, indicating a personal struggle with addiction.
The Austin Police Department’s narcotics unit was responsible for conducting this drug bust. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the rising issue of fentanyl distribution and illegal drug use within the city. All three suspects are facing first-degree felony charges, which include multiple felonies for Botello and Bishop, while Montoya is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
As of April 7, both Botello and Bishop remain in Travis County Jail, with bond amounts set at $60,000 and $25,000, respectively. Montoya, on the other hand, has a lower bond set at $7,500 and is not currently in jail. All three individuals have been ordered not to contact each other and to submit to random urine drug tests.
The arrest and subsequent drug bust are significant for the local community, underlining the dangerous prevalence of fentanyl in the area. Authorities are concerned about the potential for overdose and substance abuse linked to narcotics. Fentanyl poses a particular threat due to its potency and risk of accidental overdose, making this operation a critical step in fighting the opioid crisis prevalent in many American cities.
Future court proceedings for the arrested individuals are scheduled to take place soon. Botello’s court date is set for April 25, and Bishop’s for May 6. Details on Montoya’s court date are yet to be confirmed. The outcome of these cases could have significant repercussions for the suspects and may affect further law enforcement approaches to drug-related crime in Austin.
The community is encouraged to stay informed about narcotics-related activities in the area as authorities continue their fight against illegal drug distribution and substance abuse.
