This past weekend in Austin, the community was struck with heartache as a tragic series of crashes resulted in the deaths of five people over just 48 hours. The fatalities left many residents struggling to comprehend the sudden loss of life and the dangers on the roads.
The weekend of despair began on Saturday evening, February 15, 2025, when a two-car collision occurred in the 4100 block of North Interstate 35 Service Road. In this awful incident, 22-year-old Fiona J. Adams was driving her sedan when it collided with a pickup truck. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene, marking this crash as Austin’s sixth fatal incident of the year. The occupants of the pickup truck, fortunately, walked away without injuries and stayed to help law enforcement with their investigation.
As if the news wasn’t heavy enough, the heart-wrenching occurrences didn’t stop there. On Sunday and Monday morning, two pedestrians lost their lives in separate accidents in Southeast Austin, drawing concern over the safety of those navigating the streets.
The first victim was struck while crossing East Riverside Drive at the intersection of Tinnin Ford Road and Burton Drive around 7 AM on Sunday. Just a day later, another pedestrian was killed while trying to cross the busy SH-71 near US-183 at around 6:30 AM. Following this incident, authorities had to shut down the frontage road and SH-71 for over three hours, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Adding to the grim tally, a rollover crash occurred late Saturday afternoon in Southeast Austin, claiming the lives of two individuals while sending another to the hospital with serious injuries. It’s a devastating reminder of how quickly things can change on the roadways.
