Austin Film Festival Unveils Initial Screening Selections for 2024
The Festival, celebrating storytelling through Film, announces first batch of film screenings for its annual event
In a promising announcement for film aficionados, the Austin Film Festival (AFF) has recently revealed the first wave of screenings for their upcoming 2024 edition slated for October 24-31. The Austin Film Festival, known for championing the work of writers, filmmakers, and artists who utilize written and visual communication to tell stories, is geared up to offer a riveting and diverse selection of films in this year’s program.
The festival, which serves as a platform to showcase the contributions of creative minds to the realms of film, television, and new media, has given us a sneak peek into some of the offerings in this year’s roster. Touted World Premieres include a magical realist biopic – RAVENS, featuring recent Emmy-nominee Tadanobu Asano, a Texas-born thriller – THE EGO DEATH OF QUEEN CECILIA, and a romantic neo-noir – SILENT NOTES, starring Daniel Durant from the much-appreciated movie Coda.
Besides these, the screening schedule comprises Netflix’s adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, THE PIANO LESSON, and Cannes 2024 Un Certain Regard Award-winning film, BLACK DOG, by The Forge. Attendees can also look forward to the suspenseful Ecuadorian horror film SHAMAN, the debut session written by Daniel Negret.
These cinematic pieces will run alongside AFF’s Annual Writer’s Conference, witnessing awardees and panelists across all sections of the industry. Big names like Kathleen Kennedy, who’s being honored with the Polly Platt Award for Producing, Ronald D. Moore, the recipient of the Outstanding Television Writer Award, among others, will be attending the event. Several industry honchos, such as Craig Mazin, John August, Tanya Saracho, will be a part of the panel discussions.
Rounding out the initial selection are films such as, new mother nerve-chiller THE BELDHAM, co-dependency tale SISTERS, and situation comedy PARTY PEOPLE. Each of these films promises to intrigue with their unique storytelling and narrative style.
