The Hot Luck Fest, a significant food festival in Austin, Texas, is back to tantalize the taste buds of food enthusiasts once more. This year, the festival will take place over the Memorial Day weekend and is set to bring a new flavor twist with a pop-up from the acclaimed New Orleans restaurant, Turkey and the Wolf.
The festival, celebrated for its combination of parties, sip-and-strolls, concerts, and a grand outdoor live-fire cooking event, is bound to attract local and international food connoisseurs alike.
The culinary carnival will begin on Thursday, May 23, with a welcome party exclusive to the holders of Whole Enchilada passes (all-inclusive tickets).
The party will highlight two exemplary Austin taco spots: Nixta Taqueria and Cuantos Tacos. Offering luscious sweets for the evening will be Texas-Asian bakery OMG Squee.
Friday, May 24, introduces festival-goers to Hot Luck’s customary sip-and-stroll at the Fair Market. This year, the chefs are gearing up to create tantalizing dishes inspired by supper club menus, bringing a contemporary touch to the tradition.
On Saturday, May 24, food lovers are in for a treat with the Turkey and the Wolf pop-up event. Co-owner and chef, Mason Hereford, will delight guests with his exquisite sandwiches.
The evening of Saturday, May 24, unfolds with Hot Luck’s signature event, the Al Fuego, held at the Wild Onion Ranch in Manchaca, Texas.
Participating chefs are expected to display their culinary creativity using fire and smoke. The event’s non-Austin chef lineup features leading professionals from world-renowned restaurants, promising a feast for the senses.
On Sunday, May 26, Camp Sunnyside, embodying a summer camp and brunch theme, promises a refreshing close to the Hot Luck Festival.
Distinguished chefs outside of Austin, including Ashley Christensen from Raleigh Southern restaurant Poole’s Diner, Jeremy Sewall of Boston seafood restaurant Row 34, and pastry chef Paola Velez will be participating.
The Whole Enchilada tickets are currently priced at $595 for adults. A part of the event’s proceeds will benefit the restaurant industry-focused nonprofit, Southern Smoke Foundation.
Initiated in 2017 by co-founders Aaron Franklin, James Moody, and Mike Thelin, the Hot Luck Fest has become a cornerstone of Austin’s vibrant food culture, eagerly anticipated by both local residents and global tourists. The festival continues to uphold the city’s culinary reputation, promising an unforgettable gastronomic adventure.
