Austin Food Scene: A Smorgasbord of Openings and Closings

Austin Food Scene: A Smorgasbord of Openings and Closings

In an exciting turn of events, Austin’s food scene has seen a significant shuffle this week with a smorgasbord of restaurant openings and closings around high-traffic neighborhoods.

New Additions to Austin’s Food Scene

Good Vibrations, a wood-fired pizza trailer, has now stationed itself at Vacancy Brewing – an exciting combination for foodies and beer lovers alike. Open on select days of the week, the pizza trailer is known for its traditional yet creatively twisted pies.

Another notch on Austin’s culinary belt is the opening of a second SusieCakes outlet. The bakery, which brands itself as retro, offers vintage-style cakes with a touch of modern influences. The new SusieCakes outlet will be located on West 6th Street and will be open daily.

For the Irish-food enthusiasts, the newly opened Neighbourhood Café on 6th Street provides a delicious assortment of baked goods and breakfast/lunch plates. It operates every day from 8 am to 3 pm.

Restaurant Closures Shake Austin’s Food Scene

Unfortunately, not all news was good for Austin’s food scene this week. Notably, Halcyon, a popular coffee shop in the Mueller neighborhood, has closed its doors. However, Halcyon’s downtown location on 4th Street remains open.

Another shocking closure in the South Lamar neighborhood is Aviator Wine & Kitchen. A series of unfortunate events including eviction notice, fired staff and a disconnected phone line add to the overall mystery of its sudden closure.

Other Noteworthy Austin Food News

In noteworthy events of the week, Austin’s favorite pizza spot Home Slice announced that it now serves ‘vegan cheese.’ The vegan cheese, produced by Selfish Cow, is now available by the slice – a welcomed development by Austin’s vegan community.

Additionally, in celebration of National Dog Day on August 26th, Austin-based Lick Honest Ice Creams celebrated with ‘Pup Cups’, ‘bone broth samples’ and treats for furry attendees – a joyous occasion for local dog-owners.

In conclusion

Despite some notable restaurant closures, Austin’s culinary scene is full of verve and innovation. This week’s excitement surrounding new openings as well as the uplifting news for vegan pizza lovers and pet-owners, keeps Austin as a delightful destination for food enthusiasts. With a continuously evolving food scene, what comes next will definitely be worth watching.
