Shortly after, authorities arrested two suspects, including an adult and a juvenile. Police confirm that the attack appears to have been targeted but is not part of a wider trend. The community is urged to assist in investigations, with a reward for helpful information, as the city grapples with this tragic event.
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the vibrant city of Austin has seen its fourth homicide of the year, raising alarm bells in the community. The incident unfolded on January 24, 2025, when 19-year-old Victor Ekozeme tragically lost his life in a shooting that has left many residents rattled.
On that fateful afternoon, around 2:30 PM, Ekozeme and another unnamed victim were seated in their vehicle near the Wildhorse Flats apartment complex in Manor, Texas. Without warning, shots rang out, targeting their car. Ekozeme bravely attempted to escape, but in a desperate bid to evade danger, he lost control of the vehicle. The ride ended in a crash into a nearby fence and a ditch, where he was later found dead.
The second victim was injured during the attack and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, they were released later that same evening, which adds a sliver of good news amid a tragic situation.
Fast forward to January 27, 2025, and authorities brought two individuals into custody. This arrest was facilitated by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, showcasing their swift response to rising violence in the area. The arrested adult was identified as 18-year-old Bill Tarlue Nyanway, who faces charges related to tampering with physical evidence in connection with the shooting incident. Although the attorney information for Nyanway wasn’t available at the time of the report, his involvement has sparked considerable concern.
Additionally, a juvenile was also apprehended, although details regarding their identity remain undisclosed due to legal restrictions. This suggests that the case is still unfolding, and more information may come to light as authorities continue their investigation.
In response to the incident, security was temporarily heightened at adjacent Manor ISD schools to ensure the safety of students. The swift action demonstrated by law enforcement shows their commitment to community safety and cooperation to maintain peace.
The Austin Police Department’s Homicide Division is actively seeking assistance from the public during this critical time. They’ve put out a call for anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward. The department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for tips that could lead to further arrests or information on the case. Interested community members can reach out via 512-974-TIPS or through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
As residents grapple with this tragic loss, it’s efforts like these—community involvement and law enforcement collaboration—that will play a vital role in addressing violence in the city.
With two arrests made and a juvenile involved, it’s a reminder of the challenges that many communities face. As Austin works through this tragedy, the hope is that justice will be served, and that residents can feel safer in their neighborhoods once again. Advocating for vigilance, community support, and open communication can be the keystone in stopping similar incidents from occurring in the future.
