Austin, Texas – On September 11, Central Market celebrated its 30th anniversary by breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest charcuterie board ever created. This monumental attempt proved to be yet another example of how everything is bigger in Texas.
The charcuterie board, which measured 12 by 24 feet and weighed in at an impressive 1,032.024 pounds, was filled with a delicious assortment of artisanal meats, cheeses, crackers, fruits, and nuts. This feast showcased the rich culinary offerings that Central Market has nurtured over the years and brought the community together at its original location on North Lamar Boulevard.
Prior to Central Market’s achievement, the record was held by a Florida-based charcuterie company called Boarderie, with a board that weighed 769 pounds and measured 20 by 14 feet. Central Market’s overwhelming addition of over 263 pounds ensures it will be a while before anyone attempts to break this new record.
The event was not just about breaking a record but was also a celebration of Central Market’s 30 years of serving the Texas community. Mabrie Jackson, the managing director of public affairs for Central Market, expressed her excitement saying, “For 30 years, Central Market has been able to influence the taste of Texans. This is a wonderful way to cap off 30 wonderful, delicious years.”
The days leading up to the event consisted of meticulous planning and coordination. A skilled team of 14 people dedicated 22 hours to assemble the massive charcuterie board, ensuring that every piece of food was placed correctly. The exacting process was supported by specialized professionals from Guinness World Records, who were on-site to confirm all measurements and safety protocols.
An important aspect of the record attempt was the requirement that all food used on the board had to be consumed. Therefore, after the record was secured, Central Market generously donated the entire charcuterie spread to the Central Texas Food Bank. This act of kindness echoed the community spirit that Central Market celebrates.
The event attracted hundreds of eager shoppers who lined up to witness the momentous occasion. Among the enthusiastic crowd was Stephen Butt, the president of Central Market. When asked about the significance of bringing the record back to Texas, he remarked, “[It’s] where it should be.” His pride in the achievement was evident as he reflected on the company’s history and vision.
As the celebrations continue, the leadership at Central Market, as well as its employees, are thrilled to commemorate both their record-setting achievement and their long history in the Austin community. Butt mentioned, “We are so excited for the team here; the number of partners that it took to do this is just incredible.”
With this grand event marking a celebratory milestone, Central Market has not only filled bellies but also established a new benchmark in the realm of charcuterie boards. As the community looks back on 30 years of celebrating food and culture, they can now proudly say that they hold the title for the world’s largest charcuterie board.
