AUSTIN — A little over a year after a warrant was issued, authorities have captured a man linked to serious charges involving the continuous sexual abuse of a young child. The individual, identified as Henry Torres, aged 60, from Bastrop, is now in custody after U.S. Marshals tracked him down and intercepted him overseas.
The story kicked off in May 2023 when a warrant for Torres’ arrest was issued in Travis County. Fast forward to October 31, 2023, and a grand jury handed down serious indictments against him. These charges include a staggering 11 counts related to various forms of sexual offenses against a child, notably including allegations of continuous sexual abuse, indecency with a child, and aggravated sexual assault.
After dodging local authorities, Torres was located by officials in Panama, where he was taken into custody. This part of the journey represents a significant collaboration between international law enforcement agencies. Once detained, he was extradited back to the U.S., landing at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.
Upon his return to Texas, Torres was promptly booked into the Travis County Jail. Making sure he’s not going anywhere anytime soon, his bond has been set at $100,000. Now, he’ll be waiting for the next steps in the judicial process, and judging by the seriousness of the charges, it’s safe to say that this situation is going to unfold in public view.
This arrest may bring some relief to the community, especially to those concerned about the safety of children. Torres’ actions, detailed in the indictment, highlight a frightening aspect of society that casts a shadow over Austin and neighboring areas. Many in the community are expressing their gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in bringing this case to light.
Residents are reminded of the importance of staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities. The safety of children is a community responsibility, and knowing that law enforcement is committed to tackling such grave issues can foster hope.
While some cases take longer to resolve than others, this recent development emphasizes that justice can prevail — even when it requires extensive collaboration across borders. It remains to be seen how Torres’ story will unfold in the legal system, but one thing is clear: communities are listening, holding their breath, and waiting for justice to serve its due.
