Austin Man Reports Suspicious Deaths of Cats in His Yard
AUSTIN, Texas — A local resident in East Austin has expressed his concern and distress after discovering two dead cats placed in his front yard on consecutive days. Stray Cats and Concern for Their Welfare
Williams, who has a deep love for animals and a cat of his own, says the area is home to many stray cats. Typically, he observes around nine to ten strays visiting his yard each morning, searching for food and comfort. He believes that taking care of these animals is essential, especially since many of them appear to be emaciated and in need of nourishment.
“There are a lot of them that were clearly emaciated and hadn’t eaten, and you just want to make sure that they eat,” stated Williams. “They would just roam the neighborhood and not mess with anyone.”
However, over the past few months, Williams noticed a significant decline in the number of strays visiting his yard. He initially thought they might simply be moving away or finding food elsewhere. But two days ago, his worst fears were confirmed when he discovered a dead cat lying in his yard.

“We thought it got hit by a car or something. It happens, right?” Williams explained, trying to rationalize the tragedy. However, the following day brought another shocking discovery: a second dead cat, which appeared to have been deliberately placed in a box. This cat also resembled the first one in age and size, leading Williams to believe they could have been from the same litter.
“It’s horrifying,” Williams recounted. “My partner walked in, stunned, barely able to speak. I mean, we both love animals.” The emotional toll of finding these bodies has left the couple feeling anxious about the safety of the cats in their neighborhood.

After making the grim discoveries, Williams reached out to the city through the 311 service. Unfortunately, he learned that the only action they could take was to remove the dead animals. “You don’t want to see them hurt intentionally. It’s just not that good,” he commented, expressing his frustration and fear about the possible presence of someone harming these vulnerable animals.
