Austin Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Drug Trafficking, Found with Fentanyl and Firearms

Austin Man Receives Lengthy Sentence for Drug Trafficking

An Austin man, 61-year-old William Augustus Bryant, has been handed a significant 40-year sentence in prison and a fine of $10,000 for manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance. The pronouncement made by the judicial panel in Williamson County is a culmination of charges stemming from an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Bryant acknowledged his guilt in relation to these hefty charges, which surfaced following the detection of the potent opioid fentanyl in his vehicle. This discovery was made on July 15, 2023, during a routine traffic stop undertaken by DPS officers.

An Array of Narcotics and Firearms Seized

The initial in-traffic discovery prompted a follow-up search of Bryant’s residential premises. The ensuing search proved fruitful, revealing an array of narcotics ranging from cocaine, to methamphetamine, fentanyl, mushrooms, to marijuana. The search was not limited to drugs however, as seven firearms and two stolen motorcycles were seized by the authorities.

History of Criminal Activities

In the course of the sentencing, the prosecution vividly outlined Bryant’s intricate web of criminal activities. The prosecutors laid forth compelling evidence linking Bryant with an aggravated kidnapping incident which occurred in the aftermath of the residential search.

Besides the recent charges, Bryant has an expansive criminal record noble for past convictions relating to driving while under the influence of alcohol, possession of illegal substances, theft and disorderly conduct.

Endeavors to Curtail Drug Trafficking

Expressing his sentiments regarding the case, District Attorney Shawn Dick lauded the sentencing as a significant step towards ensuring public safety. He affirmed that Bryant’s perpetrator activities constituted a grave risk to the community and this sentencing served as just retribution.

“Bryant’s guilty plea and lengthy sentence are a significant victory for our community and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners,” stated Dick. “Today’s sentence sends a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in Williamson County.”

Toward a Safer Community

The stern sentencing of William Augustus Bryant indeed stands as proof of the county’s intolerance towards drug trafficking and related offenses. More than that, this verdict represents a resonating message to other potential and existing offenders, creating an overall deterrent effect. Perhaps more drug traffickers will think twice before plying their illicit trade, leading to safer streets and secure communities in Austin and beyond.
