Austin Community Mourns After Fatal Stabbing of Manor Senior High School Student

Austin, Texas Faces Tragic Incident at Manor Senior High School

In a shocking turn of events, Manor Senior High School in Austin, Texas, became the scene of a devastating incident on Tuesday that has left the entire community not only stunned but also heartbroken. An 18-year-old student, identified as Darrin Loving, tragically lost his life after a reported stabbing on school grounds.

The situation unfolded just after noon when emergency services received a call about the incident at 12:47 p.m. The Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) rushed to the scene and found the young student in grave condition. Despite their best efforts to perform life-saving measures, they were sadly unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Conflict Between Students

The investigation revealed that the fatal stabbing occurred during an altercation between students. A spokesperson from the Manor Independent School District confirmed that the altercation involved Darrin and another 18-year-old student, identified as Mac Brown Mbah Mbanwei. Mbanwei has since been taken into custody and charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Travis County Jail.

Superintendent Sormani also addressed the concerns surrounding campus security. “We understand that this situation raises concerns, and we will also be reviewing the security on campuses. Our priority is to be present for all students and staff as we navigate this difficult time together,” he reassured. This proactive stance reflects a commitment to ensuring student safety, which has understandably been called into question after such a devastating event.

School Closure and Support Services

In light of the tragedy, classes at Manor Senior High School, along with Manor Early College High School and Manor High School, have been canceled for both Wednesday and Thursday. The district has promised to evaluate the prospect of Friday classes based on ongoing developments. If you are concerned about the mental well-being of students during this time, the district has arranged for counselors to be available on both Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manor Early College and Manor High School, respectively.

In a continued effort to provide emotional support, the counselors will remain on-site when students eventually return to campus. Superintendent Sormani encouraged everyone to take care of themselves and support each other through this difficult time. He reminded the community that “we are a community, and it is through our support for one another that we will find strength.”
