Sponsor Our ArticlesOn March 1, 2025, Austin’s parks buzzed with energy as the Austin Parks Foundation hosted the biannual ‘It’s My Park Day’ volunteer event. Locals participated in various projects including litter cleanup and trail maintenance, showcasing community spirit and commitment to green spaces. Many enjoyed fun activities and received rewards for their efforts. This event sets the stage for the upcoming ‘Amplify Austin Day,’ aimed at raising funds for local nonprofits.
On March 1, 2025, the vibrant city of Austin saw its parks come alive with energy and teamwork as the Austin Parks Foundation celebrated its biannual “It’s My Park Day” volunteer event. This initiative invited locals to roll up their sleeves and pitch in to help beautify dozens of parks, trails, and greenbelts scattered throughout the city.
There was no shortage of ways to lend a hand. Volunteers stepped out to participate in a range of helpful projects that included litter cleanup, nature play mulching, invasive species removal, and trail maintenance. Each task, whether simple or demanding, contributed directly to maintaining the stunning green spaces that residents adore.
What makes “It’s My Park Day” so special is how it connects people. Organizers focused on bringing together park enthusiasts, friends, families, and even local businesses that participated in supporting this great cause, creating a strong sense of community and togetherness.
For those looking to jump into action, there were specific jobs available to choose from, or they could utilize the exciting IMPD Park Picker to find tasks needing attention. Each project was thoughtfully spread across the city, allowing volunteers the chance to work in their local parks or explore new ones. There was a higher concentration of projects around downtown Austin, with well-known sites like the Austin Nature & Science Center, Boggy Creek Greenbelt, and Spyglass Trailhead topping the list of locations needing love.
Some projects had volunteers flocking to them while others still had plenty of open spots. It was a mixed bag, and there was definitely a buzz of enthusiasm throughout the parks.
In addition to the volunteer work, many events included delightful perks for participants. Imagine working hard and then treating yourself to ice cream from one of the local trucks, shaking it off with a fun Zumba class, or soaking in some live tunes while you made a difference! Pre-registered volunteers also received an IMPD T-shirt and sticker that opened doors to discounts and freebies at local businesses, making it a win-win day for community engagement and local support.
The impact of this event goes beyond just one day of service. The dedication of the community shines through—the previous fall, over 3,000 volunteers came together to remove a staggering 34,000 pounds of trash and spread an impressive 713 cubic yards of mulch! This commitment to preserving public green spaces in Austin can’t be overstated, showcasing how important our parks are to community life.
With the success of “It’s My Park Day” still fresh in everyone’s minds, the anticipation is now building for Amplify Austin Day, taking place on March 5 and 6. This event aims to raise funds for an astounding array of local nonprofits. Managed by I Live Here I Give Here, Amplify Austin Day has raised a whopping $112.7 million since it started in 2013, with this year’s target set at $10 million supporting over 700 local nonprofits.
Donating can start from as little as $5, and thanks to generous corporate matches offered by local businesses, your support goes even further! Plus, there are exciting prize incentives, like music festival tickets and cash prizes, for those already motivated to fundraise.
As Austin continues to grow in strength and spirit, events like “It’s My Park Day” and Amplify Austin Day remind us of the power of community and the importance of giving back while having a blast!
