Austin, Texas – Amid the relentless summer heat, thousands of adoptable animals await their forever homes. The city’s local animal rescue organization, Austin Pets Alive! (APA!), has partnered with the nationwide “Clear the Shelters” initiative to aid their search for a loving family environment.
The “Clear the Shelters” program could not have come at a better time for places like Austin Pets Alive! According to Sara Miles, APA!’s Adoption and Foster manager, the shelter is brimming with hopeful animals seeking a home. In Austin, like elsewhere, the heat is significant. Facilities like APA provide temporary relief with misters and fans, but a cool home with loving owners is the ultimate refuge for these animals.
Anastasia Andraga, one of the many estimated visitors expected at the shelter over the course of the event, hoped to find a companion among the various breeds housed at APA. Andraga shared, “There’s a fantastic selection. There’s a lot of different breeds, and they all have very different temperaments, so no matter what’s someone’s looking for, they will probably find it.” This sentiment underlines the significant advantages for potential pet owners participating in the “Clear the Shelters” drive.
The “Clear the Shelters” initiative has successfully been running for a decade. The national pet adoption event has, to date, facilitated the adoption of over one million animals across the country. Participating in this annual event, APA! is joining the ranks of countless other organizations helping to drive change in shelter animal adoption.
Events like this, according to Miles, are indispensable. A concern is the rising temperatures making the conditions increasingly difficult for the animals. Miles emphasized “The best way for the [animals] to get help is for them to find their forever homes.” As the long, hot summer days inch on, the urgency to find these animals a safe, cool, and loving home intensifies.
Austin Pets Alive! is a local non-profit animal rescue organization that works tirelessly to provide a second chance for dogs and other animals. They focus on animals with unique medical or behavioral issues, going all out to ensure they receive the care they need and the loving home they deserve. By participating in initiatives like “Clear the Shelters,” APA continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to improving the lives of animals in need.
