AUSTIN — On Wednesday, September 25, police conducted a raid on a game room in east Austin known as Luck 4 Ever after receiving numerous complaints from residents about criminal activities associated with the business. Located on East Seventh Street, the establishment has reportedly been linked to a high number of arrests, prompting authorities to take action.
According to a statement from the Austin Police Department (APD), the investigation was a joint effort between the patrol division and the organized crime unit, which emphasizes the seriousness of the complaints raised by the community. Officers executed a search warrant at the location, and visual evidence sent by local viewers shows police personnel actively removing items from the premises during the operation.
As of now, APD has stated that detectives are still in the early stages of their investigation and have not disclosed further details. The department has indicated that additional information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
Residents in the area have expressed deep concern about the situation at Luck 4 Ever. Patrick Jones, a neighbor, noted that crime rates in the vicinity seemed to have escalated significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Things changed and really snowballed,” he commented, reflecting the worries many locals share about safety in their neighborhood.
Recent court documents highlight troubling incidents linked to the game room. Earlier in September, an APD officer, while patrolling a nearby area, stopped a man on a bike for not having a light. Upon searching him, the officer discovered a plastic bag containing cocaine, along with meth and fentanyl. The man allegedly mentioned working at Luck 4 Ever. Furthermore, officers later found a backpack filled with cash and additional drugs in the man’s car, parked behind the business.
This alarming incident is just one of many that have led to increased vigilance from residents. Local resident Kevin Hennessy reported seeing individuals who had overdosed nearby, while others have experienced violent behavior in the nearby park. Hennessy added that many neighbors have their own stories of theft, including items stolen from porches or attempts to break into homes.
According to the city’s official crime map, there have been a total of 41 reported crimes in the block surrounding Luck 4 Ever in the past 30 days. These incidents range from burglaries to assaults, raising alarms among locals who are seeking resolution to the ongoing issues.
In response to community concerns, Council member Jose Velasquez, who oversees the district where the game room is located, stated that his office continues to monitor the situation closely. The local government appears to be attentive to the residents’ requests for help in tackling the rising crime.
Austin police have confirmed that the investigation into Luck 4 Ever is still open and ongoing, with expectations that more updates will follow regarding the details of Wednesday’s raid.
As the story unfolds, the community remains hopeful that with the involvement of local authorities, positive changes will take place to ensure a safer environment.
For now, residents are left with remnants of life outside the game room, as only a few items like magazines, empty cups, and a solitary stool are left on the porch where police conducted their investigation.
