Austin Police Seek Public’s Help in Attempted Sexual Assault Case
AUSTIN — The Austin Police Department (APD) is reaching out to the community for assistance in locating a suspect involved in an attempted sexual assault that occurred on the downtown hike-and-bike trail over a month ago.
The incident took place around 5 p.m. on July 21. The victim was walking along the Ann & Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, which runs parallel to the 1700 block of South Lakeshore Boulevard. According to police reports, the suspect approached the victim, asking what time it was in Spanish. Following this, he showed the victim his cellphone screen.
In a shocking turn of events, the suspect then grabbed the victim by the arms, threw them to the ground, and began to touch them inappropriately, attempting to sexually assault them.
Suspect Description
Law enforcement has provided a description of the suspect to aid in the investigation. The individual is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall with a dark complexion. He is reported to have a heavy build, large hands, brown eyes, and black hair.
At the time of the incident, the suspect was last seen wearing a backwards navy blue hat, a matching navy blue shirt, and gym shorts.
