North Austin Shocked as Six Charged with Capital Murder in Tragic Shooting

In a heart-wrenching development, six individuals have been charged with capital murder in connection to the death of Xavier Jones Sr., a 20-year-old who lost his life in a brutal shooting on November 25, 2024. This tragic incident unfolded at the Bridge at Granada apartments on East Wonsley Drive in North Austin, leaving the community in disbelief and mourning.

The Disturbing Incident

Investigators revealed the shocking details of the event. It was reported that armed individuals brazenly broke into Jones’ apartment by shooting out the sliding glass door. Once inside, they confronted a woman and even pointed a gun at a child present in the home. In a shocking act, they stole cash and jewelry from Jones, a robbery that turned deadly when Jones was shot multiple times.

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Jones succumbed to his injuries before he could reach the hospital. This tragedy has left a deep wound in the community, as residents grapple with the loss of a young life taken so senselessly.

The Arrests

Following extensive investigations, the U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force made significant progress in the case. Between January 29 and January 30, 2025, five suspects were arrested in a well-coordinated operation involving nearly 30 officers spread across the city to ensure the apprehension of all individuals involved.

The sixth suspect was already in custody at the Travis County Jail for an unrelated crime when the new charges were filed. All six suspects are in the age range of 20 to 22 and reportedly have extensive criminal backgrounds, with known associations to gangs. The individuals facing charges include Cameron Perkins, Lorance Jones, Rhianna Farillas, Jon Williard, Judaren Forbes, and Corey Keazer.

Planned Attack

Investigators are treating this case with the seriousness it deserves. The police confirmed that this was not a random act of violence. Instead, it was a premeditated assault targeting Jones based on his social media posts, which led suspects to believe he possessed approximately $50,000 worth of cash and jewelry. Tragically, it appears that Jones was blissfully unaware that his online activity had made him a target for such malicious intent.

Community Outcry

The news of this horrific event has prompted calls from community leaders for a re-evaluation of the justice system’s handling of gang violence and repeat offenders. They emphasize that the repeated offenses by these individuals could have been curbed with more effective measures, potentially preventing this tragic loss of life.

During the arrest operation, law enforcement recovered several firearms, including pistols and an AR-15 rifle. This aspect of the case raises further concerns about the ease with which such dangerous weapons can end up in the hands of individuals with a criminal history.

A Mother’s Plea for Justice

Yvonne Jones, the mother of the deceased, has issued a statement calling for justice for her son. She described the crime as unnecessary and highlighted the profound impact it has had on their family and the community at large.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Austin Police Department is encouraging anyone with additional information to come forward. The community, united in its sorrow, continues to demand accountability for the violence that has taken away a promising young life.

As North Austin reels from the aftermath of this tragedy, it is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by gang violence and the need for action to protect vulnerable individuals from becoming targets.
