Austin Gets Spicy with Fiero Tequila’s Taco Truck Tour

Austin Gets Spicy with Fiero Tequila’s Taco Truck Tour

Austin is about to get a taste of something special as Fiero Tequila, a San Diego-based brand, rolls into town with its spicy tequila truck. This four-day event, taking place from September 18-21, features a total of seven exciting locations where locals can experience the brand’s pepper-infused tequila. For those who might not want to hunt down the truck, the chosen locations are all popular stops in the city.

Choosing the Right Spots

The truck will make stops at some of Austin’s most loved spots, including the chic new Swim Club, a pool bar perfect for relaxation, and the trendy Drifters Social Coffee & Cocktails, a combination of a pickleball court and bar that’s been creating buzz around town. Additionally, some local liquor stores will also be on the list. The tour will culminate in a tailgate party hosted by social media experts from When Where What. The exact location of this lively event will be revealed on the day of the Texas Longhorns game against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

Fiero Tequila’s Unique Offerings

Fiero Tequila claims to be the “spiciest tequila in the U.S.“, backed up with some serious heat levels. Their serrano-infused tequila is measured at 10,000-23,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while their habanero tequila reaches a whopping 100,000–350,000 SHU. For reference, these heat levels are comparable to the peppers they are made from, meaning a shot of these tequilas could feel much like a bite of pepper. The tequila is distilled at Casa Don Roberto, a family-run distillery in Mexico, under the supervision of Master Distiller Estella Anguiano, who stands out as one of the few female master distillers in the country. The process involves roasting agave for three days, infusing it with peppers from local farmers markets for an additional three days, and filtering it for the final product.

Another Option for Cocktails

While the straight tequila may sound intense, thankfully, the truck will also be mixing up cocktails to temper the spice. Although details about the cocktails and accompanying tacos aren’t specified, Fiero Tequila’s social media teasers hint at distinctive spicy margaritas that may be featured. This tour is not just about the tequila, but also about the experience, complete with seating and games for a fun hangout vibe.

Barbs B Q Scores National Recognition

In other food news, Barbs B Q in nearby Lockhart has made headlines by landing a spot on the 20 Best New Restaurants list, curated by a prominent culinary publication. This charming barbecue joint opened its doors in May 2023 and has quickly gained attention, most notably as the only Texas restaurant mentioned on this coveted list.

Innovative Barbecue Offerings

Barbs B Q is noted for its inventive menu that includes dishes like Molotov Pork Ribs, fajita sausage, and green spaghetti. The restaurant has already made its mark on serious culinary lists from Southern Living, Texas Monthly, and The New York Times. The restaurant’s style and branding are described as fresh and cheerful, complete with a whimsical red and pink color scheme that stands out against typical BBQ decor.

The Young Pitmaster

The culinary spotlight shines on Chuck Charnichart, a 26-year-old pitmaster who is changing the landscape of Texas barbecue. Having earned a reputation at Goldee’s in Fort Worth, she now leads the charge at Barbs B Q to explore creative and modern interpretations of traditional barbecue. Critics have recognized her innovative dishes, such as Flamin’ Hot Cheetos-inspired sticky pork ribs, highlighting her influence on the future of barbecue.

A Growing Scene

Austin has had a sweet spot in culinary awards over the years. The city has previously seen other local favorites, including Este and Canje, recognized on various lists, proving that the vibrant food scene continues to evolve and capture attention.

For those looking to enjoy spicy tequila or innovative barbecue, Austin has plenty to offer this September. With Fiero Tequila’s engaging truck events and Barbs B Q’s cutting-edge culinary contributions, this Texan city remains a hotspot for foodies and football fans alike.
