Austin Woman Faces Felony Charges After Allegedly Hitting Man with Vehicle in Parking Lot Confrontation

Austin Woman Charged with Aggravated Assault After Striking Man with Vehicle

Austin, Texas — A woman has been charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly drove her car into a man during a confrontation in a store parking lot last month. The incident occurred on August 28 and has led to serious legal repercussions for the woman involved.

Incident Details

Authorities report that 46-year-old Shequila Middleton was arrested over the weekend and is facing a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. This charge comes after an incident where both Middleton and the victim were driving in separate vehicles on FM 969.

According to the court documents, the victim reportedly cut off Middleton while driving. Following this, both vehicles entered the parking lot of a Dollar General store located at 6600 FM 969. The victim got out of his car intending to discuss the incident with Middleton.

Surveillance Footage

Surveillance video from the Dollar General shows a brief exchange between the two individuals before the situation escalated. In the video, Middleton can be seen accelerating her gold Honda Pilot directly towards the victim, striking him and knocking him to the ground.

Victim’s Injuries and Response

The victim sustained scrapes and contusions from the collision, and he reported experiencing general pain. After the incident, he called 911 and provided police with the license plate number of Middleton’s vehicle. This crucial detail allowed authorities to identify her using motor vehicle records and social media.

Legal Proceedings

According to the police report, the security footage corroborated the victim’s version of events. It clearly showed Middleton’s vehicle approaching him without any apparent provocation before the collision. Notably, the footage also indicated that Middleton did not check on the victim’s condition after hitting him and left the scene without providing assistance.

Currently, Middleton is in custody as she awaits further legal proceedings related to the charges against her. The incident raises serious questions about road rage and the consequences of reckless driving.

Community Reactions

The incident has sparked concern among local residents about safety on the roads and in parking lots. Many are calling for better public awareness regarding the dangers of aggressive driving and encouraging drivers to remain calm in tense situations.

As more details emerge, the Austin community watches closely for the outcomes of the legal proceedings against Middleton. Staying informed about local events like this can help citizens understand the importance of road safety and the impact of violent actions in our daily lives.

Authorities have not released further comments as the investigation is still ongoing, but the community anticipates more updates in the coming weeks. Citizens are encouraged to report any similar incidents and to always prioritize safety on the roads.
