As we all huddle around our screens this December, college football fans across Texas are buzzing with excitement. It’s officially bow season, and several of our beloved local teams have made the cut! Our area colleges, including SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, and North Texas, will all be gracing the field for some thrilling postseason action.
First up, the SMU Mustangs, currently ranked 11th, will be visiting the iconic Beaver Stadium at Penn State on Saturday, December 21, at 11 a.m.. The Mustangs are set to face the mighty Nittany Lions in a thrilling matchup. According to the betting lines, Penn State is a favorite at -9 with an over/under of 53.5. Make sure to grab your snacks ahead of time because this game is sure to deliver a healthy dose of excitement! The winner moves on to challenge Boise State in the prestigious Fiesta Bowl.
Later that same day, the Texas Longhorns will take on the Clemson Tigers at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, kicking off at 3 p.m.. With Texas holding a home advantage and favored by -11 (over/under at 51.5), fans are looking forward to a fierce contest. Coach Steve Sarkisian’s squad, led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, will battle it out against Dabo Swinney’s renowned Tigers. The winner will earn a trip to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day, so the stakes couldn’t be higher!
On Friday, December 27, Oklahoma will continue the action, facing off against another formidable opponent at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth at 11 a.m.. The Sooners clinched their postseason spot with an impressive upset over Alabama. Currently, they are slight favorites at -8.5 (over/under 44.5). Coach Brent Venables has managed to keep the Sooner spirit alive, ensuring they won’t miss bowl season for the first time since 1998!
Later that day, at 6 p.m.Texas Tech will gear up for a clash against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Memphis. This will be a showdown of former Southwest Conference foes with both teams looking to finish the season positively. Tech’s head coach, Joey McGuire, is on a quest to become the first Red Raiders coach to win bowl games in three consecutive years since the legendary Mike Leach.
Also on December 27, at 9:30 p.m., Texas A&M is heading to Las Vegas to take on USC. Despite missing out on the College Football Playoff, A&M is favored by -2.5 (over/under 51.5). Let’s hope they can break their bowl win drought since the 2020-21 season!
On Saturday, December 28, TCU will step onto the field against the Ragin’ Cajuns at University Stadium in Albuquerque at 1:15 p.m.. After finishing strong with three consecutive victories, the Horned Frogs are favored at -10 and are aiming to keep the momentum rolling into the bowl season.
Then, on Tuesday, December 31, the Baylor Bears, having bounced back with an 8-4 record, will give it their all against LSU. This game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. at NRG Stadium in Houston. Baylor is currently favored by -2 and will look to continue their winning streak which includes six consecutive wins!
Rounding out the Texas postseason lineup on Friday, January 3, the Mean Green from North Texas will host Texas State at Gerald J Ford Stadium in Dallas at 3 p.m.. North Texas is a heavy favorite at -9 with an over/under of 60.5, as they aim to snap a six-game losing streak in bowl games. At the same time, Texas State celebrates its first-ever bowl eligibility in the FBS. What an achievement!
