Captain Quackenbush’s Intergalactic Espresso Café, which opened in 1983, is now Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery. In 1999, we relocated to our current location on 43rd Street. We enjoy being a part of the Hyde Park community and look forward to providing you with many more years of service.
Captain Quackenbush’s Intergalactic Dessert Company and Espresso Cafe, widely regarded as Austin’s first coffee shop, opened on the Drag in 1983. Although the name has been shortened and the location has changed, the hip, Austin vibe has remained. Quack’s exclusively uses fresh ingredients and is proud to serve coffee that is roasted here in Austin. The baked items are created entirely by hand and contain no trans fats or preservatives. The Cakery, a bespoke creations shop, is right next door.
We’re a neighborhood bakery and café that’s been around for a long time. Wherever feasible, we use real butter, eggs, vanilla essence, unbleached flour, and fresh fruit. Try our homemade turkey panini and grilled sandwiches.
