Austin, Texas—A car fire occurred on the northbound lanes of the MoPac Expressway near Anderson Lane on Tuesday afternoon, causing serious disruption to the usual flow of traffic and resulting in sizeable delays for the northbound commuters. The fire also led to lane closures which added to the congestion.
The auto blaze was reported around 3:33 PM at the MoPac Expressway near Anderson Lane in north Austin, according to the notification from the Mobility Authority Traffic Incident Management Center. The mishap gridlocked the northbound traffic as one of the lanes was engulfed by flames.
Upon assessing the situation, the authorities swiftly took action by closing down the northbound Far West express lane and the southbound Parmer express lane segments. This was necessary as a safety precaution to prevent further incidents as the vehicle fire was being addressed. The lane closures naturally had a ripple effect on the traffic, causing substantial delays. Motorists were advised to exercise patience and consider taking alternate routes if possible.
