Central Texas communities, including Austin, are mobilizing to support LA wildfire relief efforts. Local businesses and residents are organizing numerous fundraising initiatives, clothing drives, and events to aid those affected by the devastating wildfires. As the community rallies for this important cause, they exemplify unity and generosity in the face of adversity. From clothing swaps to donations from local businesses, the collective effort highlights the spirit of compassion that defines Central Texas.
In a heartwarming show of generosity, Austin and its surrounding communities are stepping up to help those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. With the toll rising, and as many as 24 lives lost and thousands of homes reduced to ashes, the outpouring of support from Central Texas is nothing short of inspiring.
Many local businesses are getting in on the act, with a variety of fundraising efforts to assist relief organizations. TRIBEZA magazine is taking a commendable step by pledging a portion of the proceeds from its upcoming Interiors Tour directly to wildfire relief efforts. This is just the beginning—Austin’s own Hotel Van Zandt will be collecting donations of essential home goods, clothing, and toiletries from January 13-17, aiming to gather as much as possible to send to those in need.
Fashion-savvy residents can also help the cause. ByGeorge is collecting clothing donations until January 16 with the goal of focusing on essential items such as shoes, socks, sweats, onesies, beanies, and pajamas for the victims.
Mark your calendars! The 3rd Annual Clothing Swap, hosted by the fabulous duo Emily Waldman & Megan Gallagher, is happening on January 26. This event will accept new and gently used clothing items for fire victims, providing a unique way to clear out your closet while supporting a worthy cause. In addition, Christina Cruz Interiors is busy collecting gently used furniture, bedding, lighting, and home decor, planning to transport them to LA on January 20.
Even more generosity is happening, with Brooke Mozersky collaborating with Limestone Moving Co. to deliver donations to Baby2Baby and the Red Cross. The list goes on, with businesses like The Burlap Bag promising to donate 100% of proceeds from their “La-La Land” candle sales to California wildfire relief nonprofits.
At Moss Consignment + Garment Modern Vintage, a raffle is being held where 100% of proceeds will go to the Mutual Aid LA Network. Other businesses are joining this compassionate cause as well: Renée Rouleau will donate a portion of every product sold, while Pecos Jane Vintage commits to donating 20% of their sales through January 17 to the Los Angeles Firefighters Relief Fund.
Local eateries aren’t sitting idly by either; La Patisserie is set to donate 15% of in-store croissant sales from January 21 & 22 to World Central Kitchen for LA wildfire relief. Meanwhile, Collected By Blackbirds will also donate 15% of sales this week to aid those impacted.
It’s heartwarming to see that support extends to our furry friends too. WildWolfePack Treats is donating a whopping 75% of sales from their Spread Love dog treats, showing how interconnected our community truly is. Additionally, Wild Heart Yoga will give 50% of boutique sales to Direct Relief for fire impact support.
Art and wellness enthusiasts can also contribute; Tyler Guinn will donate a portion of his artwork sales over January and February to 211 LA. Audrey Scheck Design is offering complimentary design services to those who have lost homes in the fires, illustrating the community’s dedication to both healing the land and the minds of those affected.
With many Texans already deployed to California to lend a hand, including over 135 firefighters, medics, and personnel, the battle against wildfires is one fought by many across state lines. Governor Greg Abbott has shown solidarity with those facing this tragedy, ensuring that help is on the way.
As the fires continue to wreak havoc, the efforts from Central Texas to support their California neighbors highlight not just generosity, but the unbreakable spirit of communities coming together in the face of adversity. Each donation and act of kindness is a step towards rebuilding lives and restoring hope.
