A beautiful winter scene depicting the chilly conditions expected in Central Texas.
Central Texas is bracing for an Arctic cold front bringing the coldest air of the winter. Weather Impact Alerts are in place from Monday to Wednesday, with temperatures expected to dip into the 20s. Residents are urged to protect their homes and loved ones and prepare for potential winter weather including snow and sleet. Cold weather shelters are being activated, and authorities are advising preparedness for possible power outages and pipe bursts. After a severe cold spell, temperatures are expected to rise again, bringing some relief.
Central Texas, get ready to bundle up! A major Arctic cold front is making its way through the region, and it’s packing a punch! We’re expecting the coldest air of the winter to swoop in, and it looks like we might have some winter weather to contend with, starting as early as Monday afternoon.
From Monday through Wednesday morning, folks in Central Texas will have to deal with Weather Impact Alert Days. This isn’t your typical chilly winter day; we’re forecasting most high temperatures to struggle to reach the 40s, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-to-upper 20s. And it’s not just about the cold; some areas, especially in the Hill Country, could be looking at temperatures in the teens!
Hold onto your hats, because there’s an increasing chance we might see some winter weather between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. The latest weather models are hinting at a possible mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. But for the most part, it looks like snow will be the star of the show. According to the latest data, there’s about a 50% chance that Austin could see at least an inch of snow, courtesy of the European model, while American GFS ensembles suggest a 40% chance.
In response to the impending cold snap, the city of Austin is stepping up by activating cold weather shelters from Saturday night, with plans to keep them open through at least Wednesday. So if you know someone who needs a warm place to stay, don’t hesitate to spread the word!
Things are only going to get colder! Overnight lows by Sunday morning are set to reach the 20s, and the high will barely hit the lower 40s. But the real chill will hit us on Wednesday morning, with temperatures possibly plunging to the 18-19 degree mark – that’s seriously cold, folks!
But don’t worry too much! After that frigid Wednesday, we can expect temperatures to gradually rise again, bouncing back to the upper 40s by Thursday and creeping into the low 60s by next weekend. So, yes, hang in there! Warmer days are coming.
Central Texans, get your blankets, heaters, and snow shovels ready! Winter is knocking at our door, and it’s shaping up to be a wild ride! Stay warm and watch out for each other!
