East Austin continues to cement its spot as one of the city’s top destinations for dining, entertainment, and an eclectic mix of experiences with the arrival of its newest hangout – Chalmers. Located at 1700 E. Cesar Chavez, this vibrant blend of a restaurant, bar, and music venue promises to take the city’s cultural vibe up a notch with its unique offerings and hospitality.
Chalmers has brought new life to a former Shell gas station, keeping true to the spirit of the beloved structure while adding modern twists. The result is a meticulously refurbished 3,000 square-foot interior, a 2,000 square-foot front deck with a bar nestled within an old gas pump, and a spacious backyard perfect for live music under the stars.
With an enchanting charm curated by Canales and Co, Chalmers’ design balances a nostalgic feel of a retro gas station with modern aesthetics peculiar to East Austin. The interior exhibits a mix of rustic western accents fused with modern touches, while the outdoor space transports guests to a classic roadside oasis.
At Chalmers, the menu serves as a journey of flavors, featuring delights like the “Tumbleweed” onion rings, Cracked Wings, Fry Bread Tacos, and the Pecan Pie Brownie. Guests can also quench their thirst with an array of specialty cocktails like the Frozen Mexican Martini and Desert Zombie.
Headed by General Manager Aaron Amtower, Chalmers will be opening its doors from Monday to Wednesday between 4 p.m. and midnight, and from Thursday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to midnight, with extended hours until 1 a.m. on Saturdays. As East Austin’s newest hangout, Chalmers is more than just a place for food and drinks. With its unique ambiance and eclectic mix of offerings, it promises to be a hub for community, music, and a celebration of the rich cultural vibes of East Austin. Get ready to embark on a new adventure of Southwest hospitality meeting East Austin allure at Chalmers.
