Young Child Injured in Hit-and-Run Incident in South Austin; Police Launches Hunt for Suspect

A Nightmarish Incident in South Austin

A tragic event occurred in South Austin when a 7-year-old young girl innocently riding her bicycle ended up being involved in a horrifying hit-and-run accident. The incident took place on March 20 around the early evening hours near the intersection of West Slaughter Lane and Riddle Road.

A Child’s Evening Ride Turns Catastrophic

According to the details shared by local authorities, the child was not alone. An adult was with her at the time of the incident, overseeing her bike ride. In the heart-stopping moments that followed, a vehicle struck the child and fled the scene, leaving not just the injured child behind but also a stunned and horrified onlooker.

Police Launches Hunt for the Suspect

The Austin Police Department has since launched an intensive search for the driver of the vehicle, calling for much-needed assistance from the community to identify and locate the suspect. The law enforcement agency stressed that the driver failed to stop and render aid, an act which is legally required in the event of such accidents.

The driver of the suspect vehicle has been described as a Black woman who appears to be in her mid-40s with short hair. The vehicle she was driving at the time of the incident is believed to be a black 2019 Jeep Compass Latitude 4X2.
