This incident has raised alarm among parents and school officials. The Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a thorough investigation revealing explicit files being shared from a computer linked to Innmon. Following his arrest, Baranoff Elementary School placed him on administrative leave and is cooperating with authorities. The school organized meetings for parents and students to address their concerns amid fears for student safety.
Austin, Texas – In a troubling development that has shocked the local community, Carl Innmon, a 50-year-old fifth-grade teacher at Baranoff Elementary School, was arrested on charges related to child pornography. The case has raised significant concerns among parents, students, and school officials.
Carl Innmon was taken into custody on March 11, after a detailed investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) that began in May 2023. This investigation focused on individuals using BitTorrent technology to share child pornography and materials related to child sexual abuse. Authorities discovered a computer registered to Innmon that was actively sharing explicit files involving minors.
From December 29, 2024, to January 15, 2025, DPS documented that Innmon’s host computer facilitated the download of 126 files featuring explicit content depicting young children, including disturbing graphic material involving an infant girl.
The situation has created a wave of anxiety among the families of students at Baranoff Elementary School. Innmon was only in his first year of teaching at the school and had not been present on campus since March 10, just a day prior to his arrest. The response from the school district and community members indicates that there is a strong desire for clarity and assurance regarding student safety.
In light of the allegations, Baranoff Elementary School placed Innmon on administrative leave the same day they were informed of the investigation. Principal Alex Hassett announced that the school is cooperating fully with DPS and the Austin ISD Police to investigate any potential misconduct that may have occurred on campus. To address parents’ concerns, the school organized a meeting to provide information and counseling support for affected students.
Additionally, parents were notified about the charges against Innmon through a formal letter from the school district, which emphasized the administration’s commitment to transparency and safety in the wake of this disturbing event.
The arrest has had significant implications for the school community. Concerned parents are grappling with the unsettling facts of the allegations, while students may require additional emotional support as they process the information. The school district’s proactive communications are intended to mitigate fears and foster a sense of security among families.
Moreover, the investigation raises questions about the responsibility of educational institutions in background checks and oversight related to staff behavior, particularly concerning safeguarding vulnerable populations like children.
Innmon has been charged with felony possession of child pornography and is currently held at Travis County Jail with a bond set at $75,000. Authorities are encouraging anyone with further information related to the investigation to reach out to the Austin ISD Police at 512-414-1703. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen if additional charges or revelations will come to light regarding Innmon’s activities or any broader implications for the Baranoff Elementary School community.
