Chito Vela Set to Launch Re-election Campaign for District 4 Seat

District 4 City Council Member Chito Vela announces his re-election campaign kickoff at Knomad Bar, 1213 Corona Drive.

Austin, Texas – District 4 City Council Member Chito Vela, who won a defining victory in January 2022, announces his re-election campaign kickoff for the upcoming term. The event will commence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Knomad Bar, situated at 1213 Corona Drive.

A Pioneering Journey in District 4

Vela, who emerged victorious in a special election to replace Greg Casar when Casar secured a seat in Congress, was re-elected in January 2022 with a sweeping victory with more than 59 percent of the vote. Back then, Vela had aced the race against Monica Guzmán, who secured a distant second place, and Jade Lovera, who came in third. Both Guzmán and Lovera have appointed campaign treasurers this year to run against Vela, once again stirring up the political atmosphere.

Changing Austin’s Zoning and Housing Policies

Vela has been involved in reshaping Austin’s zoning and housing policies along with the support of other council members. While the declared changes elicited mixed reactions from a section of community members, including his opponents, others acknowledged and appreciated these transformations. In the run-up to his campaign, he has reported raising over $63,000 in January. While the next report is set to be due on July 15, each candidate hopes to amass more funds by then to reflect the gathered momentum.

Vela’s Professional Background

Not just a political representative, Vela is also an attorney known for his specialty in criminal and immigration law. His exposure to council dynamics was initiated when he served on the Planning Commission before being elected to the Council.
