The Dead Rabbit Irish Pub Opens on Austin’s Sixth Street

New Irish Pub, The Dead Rabbit, Opens its Doors on Austin’s Sixth Street

In the heart of Austin’s bustling Sixth Street, drink and food enthusiasts can now explore the taste and tradition of Irish pub culture blended with a Southern touch, as New York-based bar and restaurant, The Dead Rabbit, opened its doors on July 4.

Setting A New Standard for Irish Pubs

Managed by Partner Jack McGarry, The Dead Rabbit aims to introduce a fresh perspective on Irish culture and pub standards globally. McGarry sees Austin’s vibrant social and music scene as an exciting parallel to the warm, welcoming, and lively atmosphere of traditional Irish pubs. In the words of McGarry, this “third place” mentality, which values the establishment as a social environment distinct from home and work, sets the stage for a unique and sociable experience for patrons of The Dead Rabbit.

A Taste of Ireland Blended with Southern Spin

The Dead Rabbit offers its clientele a diverse menu, crafted with a unique blend of Irish and Southern influences. The bar serves signature Irish coffees, martini cocktails, Irish spirits, and popular beer brands such as Guinness. The food menu includes classics like Irish breakfast, bangers and mash, braised ribs, corn beef sliders, and a caviar bowl, many of which feature locally sourced Texas meats and produce.

Music, Social Events, and More

The 5,000-square-foot taproom, formerly the site of B.D. Riley’s, is spacious enough for large gatherings and special events. Live Irish music, holiday celebration events, and many more social activities are planned to enthrall visitors. McGarry sees The Dead Rabbit as playing a pivotal role in the ongoing revitalization efforts of downtown Sixth Street.

The First Step of a National Expansion

The launch of The Dead Rabbit’s Austin branch serves as the inaugural step in its national expansion plans. The Irish pub aims to extend its unique blend of Irish pub-inspired food and drinks to other locations in the United States. The next openings are scheduled for Washington, D.C., and Boston in the coming year.

To experience the unique entwining of Irish pub culture and Texas hospitality, visit the new Dead Rabbit at 204 E. Sixth St., Austin. More information can be found at www.thedeadrabbit.com
