Austin, Texas – On Sunday afternoon, September 29, the Austin Police Department (APD) began an investigation concerning a deceased individual found near Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin.
According to reports, Austin 911 received a call at approximately 2:02 p.m. regarding a man who was described as behaving erratically. The distress call indicated that the man was seen waving his arms, punching, and acting very strangely at the lake, located near the intersection of Cesar Chavez and Nueces Street.
The caller was particularly worried when the man entered the water and did not resurface. Following the call, emergency services were dispatched swiftly. Austin Fire Department (AFD) crews arrived at the scene just five minutes later, at 2:07 p.m., and managed to locate the man in the water.
Once the man was pulled from the lake, both AFD and Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) teams conducted life-saving measures. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at 3:11 p.m..
As the investigation unfolds, the APD has reported that there are currently no indications of trauma or harm present on the man’s body. At this stage, authorities do not suspect any foul play in relation to the incident.
APD is urging anyone who might have witnessed the man’s actions or has any additional information about the incident to contact the Homicide Tipline at 512-477-3588. It is vital for the ongoing investigation to gather as much information as possible from the public, especially those who may have been in the area at the time.
