In a rare public appearance within Austin, Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest person, showed up in Travis County Family Court amid an ongoing custody battle with his former partner, Claire Boucher, best known by her stage name Grimes.

Tensions Rise in Court

The hearing started with State District Judge Catherine Mauzy ordering a small group of spectators out of the courtroom. Both Musk and Grimes’ attorneys requested that the proceedings be held privately, citing concerns about the safety of their three children and the intense privacy issues surrounding the case.

Musk arrived at the courthouse surrounded by a team of personal bodyguards, over 45 minutes before the 9 a.m. hearing. He kept to himself in a stairwell until the hearing began. This moment was one of the few instances where Musk has been publicly spotted in Austin.

The ongoing custody battle between Musk and Grimes has taken both California and Texas courts by storm. Their situation turned more chaotic when Grimes’ mother, Sandy Garossino, took the unconventional route of social media to convey her concerns.

Garossino wrote, “It was nice seeing you on Father’s Day. I hope you got the card that I helped X make. He was so proud of it,” she wrote. “I’m writing here as the only way I have to reach you. As you know, my 93-year old mother is now at end-of-life palliative care.”

She further expressed her concern by adding, “I am alarmed to learn that the children cannot come as you are withholding them and their needed passport documents from Claire,” referring to Musk.

Musk is reported to have at least twelve children with three different women. His most recent child is with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, with whom he also shares two other children. The ongoing case involves the three children he fathered with Grimes, the internationally acclaimed musician.
