Austin, Texas – March 2, 2024
On Saturday morning, the Austin Fire Department (AFD) responded to a fire at the Travis County Juvenile Detention Center located in south Austin. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene on the 2500 block of South Congress Avenue.
Upon arrival, AFD personnel observed black smoke and flames emanating from the roof of the detention center building. Quick action was taken by the fire crews to extinguish the fire, preventing further damage to the property.
As of now, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and there have been no reports of any injuries resulting from the incident. A thorough investigation will be conducted to ascertain the root cause of the fire.
