TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — Early Friday morning, a construction crew accidentally hit an 8-inch gas line, leading to a significant gas leak near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 620 and Ranch Road 2222. The incident caused the Lake Travis Fire Rescue (LTFR) team to respond promptly and implement necessary safety measures.
Due to the leak, the northbound lanes near the 6400 block of FM 620 were closed, resulting in major traffic disruptions. In an effort to assist drivers during this congested period, traffic crews began redirecting vehicles away from the affected area. LTFR has suggested using Comanche Trail as an alternate route to alleviate some of the traffic congestion.
By 4 p.m. Friday, LTFR provided an update stating that crews had started digging to repair the damaged pipe as well as to control the ongoing leak. Texas Gas joined the efforts, assisting with the repairs and ensuring public safety. LTFR indicated that the estimated time for the restoration of gas service is between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday.
Despite the inconvenience, LTFR expressed understanding of the frustration caused by the leaks and the traffic jam. They acknowledged the significant impact on the daily routines of local residents and advised those in the area to seek alternate routes if possible.
As repairs continue, LTFR has committed to keeping the community informed. They will provide updates as new information becomes available, which is pivotal for residents planning their routes. “We will continue to provide updates as we receive them,” they stated in a social media release. Public safety is paramount, and crews are working diligently to resolve the situation.
Residents affected by the gas leak should remain cautious and follow any posted detours and instructions from emergency services. As always, safety remains a priority, and further community updates will be provided as they occur. This incident has underscored the importance of communication between public services and residents, making clear the immediate impact of such events on daily life in the area.
