In a heart-rending show of unity, the family and friends of Haleigh Murphy are planning a candlelight vigil to raise awareness about the 22-year-old Army veteran who has been missing for more than a year. The event was originally scheduled for August 18 at Meadow Lake Park in Round Rock, Texas, but has been postponed until October 6 according to event organizers’ social media updates.
Based in Temple, Texas, Haleigh was last seen visiting the Austin area during the weekend of her disappearance. Her last known location, as reported by her mother, Becky Mitchell, was Eddie’s Tavern in Round Rock. She was seen around 11:30 p.m. on June 16, 2023. Upon her family’s inability to make any further contact over the following three days, Haleigh was officially reported missing to the local authorities.
Haleigh’s family is anxiety-stricken as she has a young son who is currently staying with them. Becky Mitchell revealed last September that there has been no activity recorded from Haleigh’s phone, bank or cards since her disappearance. This inactivity has caused deep concern and directed efforts towards locating her.
According to the Department of Public Safety’s Missing Persons Bulletin, Murphy was last seen clad in a light-purple T-shirt and jean shorts, complemented with matching light-purple Vans. Known for her tattooed body, the detailed description issued has enabled the public to better identify and help find Haleigh.
As each day passes, the worry and fear surrounding Haleigh’s disappearance remain unabated. The candlelight vigil intending to bring Haleigh back to her son, family and friends is a crucial attempt to multiply awareness and information about her.
The community’s assistance is requested in the disheartening quest, as a unified effort might yield some leads. Any information, no matter how small, could be the turning point in the investigation. Thus, all sectors of society, especially those in and around Round Rock, are encouraged to participate in the vigil and, more broadly, in the ongoing efforts to locate Haleigh.
Times like these reflect the strength of the community. Haleigh’s case has touched many hearts, provoking an outpouring of support and hope across the community. As the date of the vigil draws near, it is hoped that its peaceful and sombre message will resonate with the broader public and lead to a break in the case. Amid the uncertainty, the candlelight vigil symbolizes the spark of hope that Haleigh will yet be found.
