Austin has a vibrant selection of events this month. The city transforms into a hub of excitement in July, offering an electrifying array of theatre performances, museum activities, music concerts and more. Here are some events of note for those who want to spice up their summer plans.
Commencing July 3rd, the H-E-B Austin Symphony’s July 4th Concert and Fireworks celebration is set to dazzle its audience with its dazzling pyrotechnics. Free and open to the public, the event is part of the two-day Star Spangled Fest. See Austin’s skyline light up with a vibrant fireworks display on Vic Mathias Shores. The event kicks off at 8 p.m with a concert starting at 8:45 p.m.
Starting July 12, through to August 17, the Zilker Theatre Productions will be hosting the popular musical – Legally Blonde. Experience Elle Woods’ journey from being a fashion-forward sorority girl to discovering her true potential at Harvard Law. The production, open to audiences from Thursdays to Sundays, is free to attend, although donations are encouraged.
On July 13, the Blanton Museum of Art is “Dancing about Art” with live music and dance-themed art experiences. This event includes a “Swing Edition” with live music, an art talk, dance lessons, among other activities.
On July 14th, the Bullock Museum is honoring its namesake, Bob Bullock, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., with free exhibit admission. The event features live music performances, various activities, crafts and games primarily suited for families.
The Long Center collaborates with the ACL Radio this year to host a free weekly concert series every Thursday. Situated on the Long Center lawn, viewers can enjoy performances from a variety of emerging and established artists in downtown Austin.
From July 18 – 20, spend your weekend with free concerts hosted in the Red River Cultural District as part of the Hot Summer Nights event. In addition to boosting local businesses during the less active summer months, the event provides financial support to local artists thanks to sponsors and donors.
On July 21st, the Solstice Soundscapes program offers a unique and restful outdoor experience from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., combining movement and relaxation with the delight of natural soundscapes.
Starting on July 21st and running through to September 8th, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical brings to stage a successful compilation of Carole King’s hits along with the story of her life and illustrious career.
Also on July 21, Shrek the Musical brings to life the much-loved saga about a grumpy green ogre, Shrek, and his misfit friends’ adventure. This fun, family-friendly musical is sure to leave you with plenty of laughter.
