Austin hosts 96th Kite Fest with Shopping, Food, and Other Activities

AUSTIN, Texas — The sky over Zilker Park was afire with colorful kites as it played host to the nation’s longest-running kite festival this past Saturday. The 96th ABC Kite Fest drew in families, kite enthusiasts, and curious onlookers with its array of activities which, for the first time, included a pop-up market featuring women-owned small businesses.
Grand Display of Kites by “Go Big or Go Home”
The professional kite flying group “Go Big or Go Home” returned, captivating the crowd with their intricately designed, large kites. The group’s impressive performance was certainly a sight to behold as the colossal kites danced across the Texas sky.
More than Just a Kite Festival
While the kite festival is a favorite annual event for many due to the stunning display of kites, this year’s event promised even more. ABC Kite Fest partnered with Mini Market, a pop-up market that promotes and features women-owned small businesses. Boasting various unique local businesses, the market surely added a shopping thrill to the festival experience.

“What I would say to anyone who’s never been to the kite festival is it’s the ultimate family friendly day. It is an incredible, happy place today,” said Bobby Jenkins, President of ABC Home & Commercial Services. Jenkins went on to describe the event as a gift back to the community where people from every walk of life could come together, celebrate, and enjoy a truly unique spectacle.
