The city of Austin, Texas has once again become the nexus of innovation, creativity, and cutting-edge technology, drawing thousands of attendees from all over the globe to its annual South By Southwest (SXSW) conference. KSAT 12 attended the event, taking us through the exciting journey at the Creative Industries Expo.
The downtown Austin convention center transformed into a bastion of innovation. Dozens of companies set up pop-ups, allowing attendees to experience first-hand the latest technological advancements and forward-thinking concepts.
Among these innovations, KSAT highlights Shrunk 3D, a mobile business that converts your memories into a 3D replica. An employee at the expo shared, “We take 190 images of you within that one second.” A truly ground-breaking concept pushing the boundaries of digital memory preservation.
Besides, Shared Studios featured a live stream portal that opens up the chance to virtually travel and converse with people in another country. “We have 20 of these all around the world, so we create global experiences whether it be for learning, innovation, or brand activations.” said an employee of Shared Studios.
The Central Intelligence Agency also participated, using the SXSW conference as a recruitment tool and gaining more insight into the innovations happening in different sectors. The agency’s personnel expressed, “What we’re trying to do is try to bring a little bit of our story and our building to the public.”
Outside of the Creative Industries Expo, KSAT stopped by Audible’s pop-up carnival, offering a delightful glimpse into the various genres available on the popular streaming platform.
To wrap up, the SXSW conference, as per a release, aims to “showcase some of today’s most forward-thinking brands and technology. The Expo shows how creativity fuels progress across all industries, from entertainment and health to social impact and more.”
This glimpse into current technological advancements and the future of creativity cements SXSW as a critical event on the international innovation calendar. The KSAT team certainly gleaned important insights into the tech industry, verifying once again the status of Austin as the hub of innovation.
