A wave of sweet and savory excitement sweeps Austin as the city embraces the arrival of the summer season, the Hot Luck festival, and the Memorial Day specials. With a host of food and drink options available, Austin residents and visitors have plenty to feast on this long weekend.

Hong Kong’s Hui Lau Shan Opens Austin Store

Joining the bustling Austin food scene is Hui Lau Shan, a revered dessert shop from Hong Kong with a mango-centric menu. The dessert store, known for its innovative use of mango in almost all its menu items, made its debut at 7020 Easy Wind Dr, Suite 150, intriguing Austinites with a plethora of special treats including jelly, pudding, juices, mochi, and other signature bites and drinks. The Instagram page hints at a promise of more mango-infused surprises during its soft opening phase, which appears to be extended due to the warm reception of Austinites.

Austin Prepares for Memorial Day Weekend with Special Offers

Throughout Memorial Day weekend, Austin restaurants and bars will be catering to the crowds with stunning food and drink specials. A few not-to-be-missed offers include:

  • Zanzibar Rooftop’s red, white, and blue boozy popsicles, available from May 24-27. An adult spin on the classic summertime treat, these popsicles feature a concoction of vodka, strawberry, lemon, and Blue Curaçao.
  • Cover 3 will extend its upscale sports bar-like weekend brunch until May 27 to ensure visitors enjoy a memorable Memorial Day.
  • The Carpenter Hotel will host a BBQ and pool party on May 26 with pulled pork sandwiches and jackfruit as vegetarian alternatives. Admission includes food, but drinks are sold separately.
  • Redbud Ice House is set to entertain guests with an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil on May 27, with live music provided by Spaceflight Records artists. Tickets are priced at $40 online and $45 at the door with $10 from each ticket going to No Kid Hungry.

Looking Ahead to Sweeter Days

Hints of summer are also appearing in Austin’s ice cream scene, as Lick Honest Ice Creams prepares to release its new line-up of summer flavors on May 31. Expect exciting flavors like a reformulated Cherry Limeade, Cilantro Lime, Strawberry Basil, and a vegan-friendly Grapefruit Paloma. Lick Honest Ice Creams is an Austin favorite, acclaimed for its locally sourced ingredients and inventive flavors.
