Bozeman High School is proud to announce that senior goalkeeper Oliver Olsen has been named the 2024 Gatorade Montana Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Olsen’s outstanding performance led the Hawks to an unbeaten record and a state championship title. He also excelled academically and contributed to community service, making him a well-rounded student-athlete.
Bozeman has so much to celebrate with one of its very own, Oliver Olsen, earning the prestigious title of the 2024 Gatorade Montana Boys Soccer Player of the Year. As a senior goalkeeper at Bozeman High School, Olsen has not only shined on the field but has also brought home some serious bragging rights for the Hawks!
With a towering height of 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 185 pounds, Olsen was nothing short of a fortress in goal this past season. He played an instrumental role in leading the Bozeman Hawks to an impressive unbeaten record of 14-0-3, culminating in their victory in the Class AA state championship last fall. This was no easy feat! Throughout the season, Olsen achieved an astounding nine shutouts, allowing only 13 goals against his team. The competition didn’t stand a chance!
One of the standout moments of the season came during the state semifinals where OIson showed his mettle. In a tense shootout against Bozeman Gallatin, he stepped up and made two critical saves that propelled the Hawks into the championship match. It was a nail-biting game and Olsen’s nerves of steel were key to securing their spot. When it came down to the championship game, the Hawks faced off against Billings West and took home a tight 1-0 victory, etching their names in Bozeman’s soccer history.
Olsen’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed. Not only was he named the Eastern AA Player of the Year, but he also earned first-team all-state honors—and not just once, but twice! His contributions to the team did not go unnoticed by coach Luke Ashmore, who recognized his remarkable ability to impact matches and lead his team by example.
Aside from his athletic prowess, Olsen is acing it in academics too! He’s maintained a stellar weighted GPA of 3.91 while also being actively involved in community service. Last summer, he embarked on a meaningful mission trip to Tanzania with the Montana Futbol Foundation. There, he contributed to building a school and generously provided soccer equipment to youth players in the area. His heart of gold shines just as brightly as his goalkeeping skills!
With this remarkable achievement, Olsen has become the fifth player from Bozeman High School to receive the Gatorade award, and he holds the honor of being the first goalkeeper to achieve this title. Talk about making history!
What’s next for this talented player? Oliver is set to continue his soccer journey at Westminster University in Utah, and considering his stellar track record, there’s no doubt he’ll excel there too! After leading the boys’ soccer team to its first state championship since 2018—and being the sixth overall title for the Hawks—he’s truly left his mark on Bozeman sports history for years to come.
Reflecting on his successful season, Olsen beams with pride at the recognition brought to the Hawks. He emphasizes the importance of the team’s collaboration, reminding us all that while one player may shine, it takes a whole team to reach such incredible heights.
Congratulations to Oliver Olsen for this well-deserved recognition! The Bozeman community is cheering you on as you embark on your next adventure!
