AUSTIN, Texas – The city revels in the joy of Mother’s Day, celebrating the incredible bond between mothers and their children. A particular highlight of this year’s festivity is 105-year-old Elizabeth Morris of Austin, who gifts us with her inspiration and wisdom.
Morris, who has celebrated close to eighty Mother’s Days, raised three sons singlehandedly after her husband’s demise. She ventured through various roles such as an office manager and even book-work for several major construction companies.
“This is pictures of my sons with me. Making clothes and learning how to make a dress were essential skills. So, I navigated my life with them and worked tirelessly to give them everything they need,” recalls Morris.
Narrating her sons’ accomplishments, she said, “They’re doing fine. Joe Dale was a tank, maybe for the longest. My second son worked for Texas Instruments for 35 years, and my first event flew for Delta Air Lines for 35 years. Now, they are all retired!”
With almost eight decades spent in celebrating motherhood, Morris has invaluable advice to share with new moms. “Every Thursday night, I found myself in a ballgame, giving time for their girls. They had to practice for their football games. So, I spent a lot of time in the park for that,” she reminisces. Her advice – be there for your child. Relish those precious moments. Be active in their lives, whether it’s sports or school activities.
Morris now brings the maternal charm to her three grandsons, a great-grandson, and a great-granddaughter. She is a living example of a mother’s love that lasts a lifetime and beyond.
As we pay tribute to mothers everywhere this Mother’s Day, we must remember the fortitude of women like Elizabeth Morris. She stands as an enduring symbol of motherhood’s grit and determination in the face of life’s challenges, and her tale serves as an inspiration for all moms, new and seasoned alike.
